Beginners and experienced players are all welcome
Every Friday afternoon, Fort Stamford - must be the Canasta group! The group continues to thrive and membership keeps creeping up. It's so nice to hear the lively chat, laughter and the occasional groan.
New members will always be made welcome. If you can't play we will teach you, if you can then sharpen your skills.
If you don’t drive then there is a regular bus service that stops very close to the Fort.
January 2026 News
Well another year has drawn to a close and the Canasta group continues to flourish. Our weekly Friday meetings continue as always to be well supported.
On Friday, 19th December we had our group Christmas lunch at Fort Stamford The team at La Bouche did us proud as usual, a varied menu, well prepared and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Our thanks to them all.
After several years in the role Mary Donnelly has decided to stand down as deputy group leader and I would like to really thank her, not only personally but on behalf of the group for her constant support. I am very pleased to say that Sue Richards has volunteered to step into that position as Mary’s replacement. Thank you Sue
June 2025 News
On 4 June I am pleased to say that our Canasta group took part in a Charity Canasta event hosted by Ivybridge u3a at Bittaford Village Hall. This was a re-run of the event they very successfully organised last year and this event was just as enjoyable. It was well supported by both clubs with just over 40 participants taking part.
Following the end of the canasta games we were treated to a truly scrumptious cream tea with cake.
Together with the raffle the afternoon raised a magnificent £438 for Childrens Hospice South West. Ivybridge u3a have intimated that they will be organising another similar event next year which I, for one, am looking forward to, it was such fun.
My thanks to Maggy Swinson and John Davis of Ivybridge for organising this event.
