Groups

We currently have more than 30 interest groups. The majority of our members join one or more of them.

Each group is a self-help group. That is, there are no paid teachers. Each group member is both a learner and a teacher, with everyone learning together and passing on any expertise they have. Some groups are just for fun. For example, Natural History, Devon Pubs, Puzzling and the Lunch Club, but even with those we hope that every group member will help out.

Each group has a Group Leader who is the group contact. They arrange meetings, venues, dates and times and keep group member details and record attendance.

If the group is small then meetings are often held in someone's house, where a small charge may be made for refreshments. If the group is large, then meetings may be held in a local venue. There may be a charge for room hire or you may need to buy a drink.

If a group has a lot of members we may create a waiting list.

We need more groups, so if you think that a subject would appeal to people, then do please think about starting up a group yourself. Any topic will be welcome. It's not as daunting as you may think and you make new friends and acquire new skills. Our Groups Liaison will be delighted to hear from you.

Bursary Scheme

We have a Bursary Scheme for groups to claim for financial help for certain projects. This is not for normal expenses, but for projects which will assist in the learning process for that group. For example, to pay the fees for an expert in a certain field which will enable the group to progress.
