The ukulele has grown dramatically in popularity in recent years. Its small size makes it easily portable and stowable. Having 4-strings, it is less complex and less expensive than 6-string guitars of comparative quality. Easier to play, the ukulele has a soft, warm sound, enhanced by combination with other instruments in a ukulele group.  We could take a small number of acoustic guitars.

We practise on a wide repertoire of well-known songs. Our group welcomes everyone from complete beginners to experienced players and can provide support to those wishing to start a new venture.

If you don’t have a uke we suggest you come and join in the singing for a couple of sessions first and see if you like it before buying a uke - they are not very expensive and can often be found in charity shops. Songs are mainly those you will know from your youth although there are some more modern ones.

Whatever your status in life, you’re welcome to join our merry u3a minstrels - Ukes are quite cheap instruments so it won't cost you a fortune.
